A esquerda continua a "usar" Schmitt
It should come as no surprise that Loughlin sees the line of thought he is tracing culminate in the work of the fascist (and, if only for a short time, Nazi) German legal and political theorist Carl Schmitt. That is not to say that association with Schmitt necessarily taints the argument of this book, though Loughlin's defence of nationalism does not help matters. As with many on the Left who are dissatisfied with liberal constraints on democracy, Loughlin is interested in Schmitt's analysis of "the people" and political conflict, and their role within the institutions of government.
